An egg hunt that multiplies engagement by 5

This project perfectly embodies FCA's know-how in online community engagement, combining storytelling, gamification and team spirit to offer memorable and unifying experiences.

Context & goals

We wanted to energize our community server, Slash FR, on the occasion of the Easter event. The goal: strengthen the community by significantly increasing activity and time spent on the platform. We designed a custom animation, blending storytelling, gamification and community spirit. The target: Slash FR members, naturally busy community managers and Discord admins.

Our approach

For this event, we turned the Discord server itself into a playground with an immersive egg hunt. Easter eggs of varying rarities appear randomly throughout discussions: each member can instantly react to collect them, earning more or fewer carrots, the central resource of the animation. The competition takes on a collective dimension thanks to a team system, reinforcing engagement and group spirit.

All the game mechanics, dynamic team management and contextual appearance of elements come from complex, tailor-made systems built by our developers. Thanks to our deep technical mastery, we can imagine interactive and innovative experiences that go beyond the usual standards, with a more human and personalized approach.

The spectator stance

Too often, many people don't even dare to take part in a community event, convinced in advance that they have no chance of finishing on the podium: this is what we call the spectator stance. On our server, which brings together many community managers and Discord admins — profiles that are naturally very busy — we removed this barrier: here, there is no sign-up barrier, no “Participate” button, the event starts as soon as you arrive. Thus, someone who has not yet said anything is motivated to become active and join the event, especially since it's very simple and clear to understand how to participate. The result: even the members most busy with their projects get involved and fully enjoy the event.

Team spirit with the HypeSquad houses

To strengthen cohesion, we chose to organize the event around the “HypeSquad houses,” a well-known Discord system that lets you create motivated teams and spark competition while bringing participants together around a familiar universe, here: Discord.

To enrich this experience, several side activities were integrated:

Fortnite imported into Discord 

A Battle Royale where several players face off on a dedicated server. After an item-gathering phase, each can ban an opponent or protect themselves. In the end, only one remains.

‍Podcasts broadcast live on Discord

Several brand-new podcasts were launched to explore various topics related to Discord and our community: news, debates and behind-the-scenes content from the server. Contests highlighted the creativity of server creators, judged by a jury on several criteria such as respect for the theme and originality.

Other activities

Other events punctuated the week: online Werewolf, Minecraft mini-games, Among Us sessions… The diversity of games allowed everyone to find their style and earn points for the event, while strengthening cohesion and community engagement.

Rewards & gifts

To motivate participants, concrete and exclusive rewards were offered: Discord Nitro subscriptions, delivery of brand-new mascot stickers and exclusive banners, accessible only on the occasion of our events. Giveaways were also organized, boosting engagement and enthusiasm around the activity.

Safety & fairness

To ensure a gameplay experience that is both fair and secure, we developed our own anti-cheat system. This bespoke setup allows us to effectively detect and remove suspicious or automated behavior, thereby ensuring the integrity of the event and the peace of mind of participants.

Results

Success was very much there:

• More than 20,000 messages exchanged in a single day, 10 times the usual average.
  
• +150% active members with more than 700 participants.
  
• Time spent on the server multiplied by 5 during the event.
• A community rallied around a strong and unifying experience.

Beyond the numbers, Slash FR turned its Discord server into a true social hub, far exceeding the usual gaming-related uses. This achievement perfectly illustrates Discord's potential as a lever for engagement and community animation, showcasing our expertise in gamification, animation and audience adaptation.
