A Discord server that listens to young people

Aide Jeune

Set up in early 2021 by Armand Diotel, co-founder of FCA, the Aide Jeune association is among the projects we are proudest of. It stands for our determination to answer real social problems with concrete, well-fitted solutions built on Discord.

Social impact

With a committed team of 20 volunteers, Aide Jeune has grown into a busy peer-support platform of more than 1,600 members, and has indirectly reached over 7,000 people across its life. To date, our work has led to more than 1,700 young people being actively helped through periods of real difficulty.

Safety and privacy

We will not detail the specific confidentiality measures, precisely because our members' trust depends on them. What we can say is that safety and privacy sit at the centre of everything here. 

Limits, and what comes next

Where the active listening our volunteers offer reaches its limit, Aide Jeune takes responsibility for pointing young people towards qualified health professionals, so that care and support carry on.

What FCA brought

Drawing on what we know about Discord, FCA put several technical pieces in place for Aide Jeune:

• A support ticket system so that requests for help are handled in an orderly way.
• Automated moderation to keep the space a kind one.
• A quest programme built to encourage members to take part and stay involved.

In closing

Every feature was thought through and built for Aide Jeune specifically, which is what makes this project a good measure of how FCA adapts to very different kinds of community.

The initiative shows what we can do in building and running Discord communities, and above all what we are willing to put that skill towards: making a real difference to young people's lives.
